40 Years of Victory: Hastings Coastal Twirlers
Legacy of Success

Introduction:
For four decades, the Hastings Coastal Twirlers have been a shining beacon of excellence in the world of majorettes. With countless wins and accolades under their belts, the Twirlers have not only mastered the art of baton twirling but have also cemented their place as one of the most successful teams in the region. As we reflect on their remarkable journey, it becomes clear that these victories are not just about the trophies—they represent years of dedication, passion, and an unyielding commitment to greatness.
Story:
The story of the Hastings Coastal Twirlers began over 40 years ago with a small group of twelve passionate individuals who shared a love for the art of baton twirling, all led by the visionary
Teresa. From their humble beginnings, the Twirlers quickly gained recognition for their innovative routines and flawless performances. What started as a modest troupe soon evolved into a well known and respected team. As the years passed, their reputation grew, and so did their trophy cabinet. They became renowned for their ability to blend traditional twirling techniques with modern flair, captivating audiences and judges alike.
One of the most memorable periods in the Twirlers’ history was the late 1980s and early 1990s, when they achieved an unprecedented streak of victories in national carnivals. It was during this golden era that the Twirlers truly found their stride, establishing themselves as a formidable force in the world of majorettes. Each win was a testament to the countless hours of practice, the unwavering support of their coach Teresa, and the deep bonds formed within the team. As they evolved, the Twirlers consistently pushed the boundaries of what was possible in baton twirling, earning them a loyal following and numerous titles along the way.
The Hastings Coastal Twirlers have always been grateful for the unwavering support of their local community. One early example of this was a sponsorship from the Bingo hall on Hastings Pier,
led by Pete Hargreaves, who generously donated £1,000. This crucial contribution helped with transportation costs and allowed the Twirlers to purchase their first sashes. In return, Teresa and
the Twirlers have continuously given back to their community. Through sponsored twirls, walks and marches, they have raised funds for causes such as St. Michael’s Hospice, the Kipling Ward
at The Conquest Hospital, Tree of Hope, the RNLI, Guide Dogs for the Blind, and in support of the late Hayley Okines.
The Twirlers extend their heartfelt thanks to their longtime supporters including Teresa’s boss at 15 years old, a local businessman who helped her start Hastings Coastal Twirlers. Together with Coleman’s who has generously provided their truck to lead the team in carnivals for the last two years, proudly displaying their many trophies—a task previously and gratefully undertaken by Colossus Scaffolding. As well as a special thanks goes to the late Pete from Top Flight Supplies on Queens Road, where Teresa often found herself rummaging through his basement to see which trophies he had available. His support was a cornerstone in the Twirlers’ success.
Finally, none of this would have been possible without the unwavering support of Teresa’s family — her parents, Pat and Den, her son Michael—and the entire Hastings Coastal Twirlers troupe,
along with the dedicated team of volunteers who have been instrumental in the team’s continued success. While there are too many to name individually here, each person has played a pivotal
role in helping the Twirlers maintain their position as the No.1 majorette team in Hastings.
Teresa, their longstanding coach, extends her heartfelt thanks to all who have contributed to making this dream a reality and ensuring the team’s ongoing triumphs.
Conclusion:
As the Hastings Coastal Twirlers celebrate 40 years of success, they do so with a deep sense of pride and accomplishment. Their many wins over the decades are a reflection of the hard work, creativity, and unity that have been the cornerstones of the team’s philosophy. While the trophies and awards are a testament to their skill, the true legacy of the Twirlers lies in the community they’ve built and the lives they’ve touched. Looking ahead, the Hastings Coastal Twirlers are poised to continue their winning tradition, inspiring the next generation of majorettes to reach for greatness, just as they have done for the past 40 years.
